NETWORK MANAGER MUST POSSESS

Network Manager, upon joining the managerial ranks of an organization, must possess certain skills that will enable them to perform their tasks successfully. In many ways, the skills that network 4manager possess in the organization are the most valued resources of the organization. Poor managerial skills can defeat the most successful activities and in many cases can lead to the demise of the organization.

The three most important managerial skills that must be possessed by a network manager are as follows:

  • Network Management Skills
  • Network Tools and Technology Skills
  • Personal Knowledge and Cognitive Capability

Network Management Skills

The network manager should have the abilities that are necessary to carry out network operation, administration, maintenance, and provisioning of networked systems.

· Operation deals with keeping the network up and running smoothly.

· Administration deals with keeping track of resources in the network and how they are assigned.

· Maintenance is concerned with performing repairs and upgrades.

· Provisioning is concerned with configuring resources in the network to support a given service.

We can measure network management skills if the organizational network running efficiently, secure, up to date, generating revenue for the organization and the company performing well in the market.

Network Tools and Technology Skills

The network manager should have the knowledge of Network Technology tools like network hardware and security software's. The network manager should be aware of tools, techniques and methods for the use of hardware and software in connecting all computer associated equipment in the business and domestic environment, such as personal computers (PCs), workstations, printers, scanners, fax and transaction machines to local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs) and the Internet. He must be expert in security and access control devices for connection to computer networks, as well as security management software for use within organizations and their enterprise networks.

We can measure network tools and technology skills if the network is capable of holding against the latest security threats.

Personal Knowledge and Cognitive Capability

The Network Manager should have an interest in computer networks field and a detailed knowledge (experience) of network hardware and software. He must be having cognitive capability, the logical and clear thinking for problem-solving that enables him to identify and respond to various factors that affect a given situation. Personal knowledge and cognitive capability are desirable skills for a network manager for identifying the cause of a problem and to understand the degree of complexity in a given situation and to reduce that complexity.

We can measure Personal Knowledge and Cognitive Capability if the network is free of complex problems and faults.
